Schiphol once again offers plenty of destinations to choose from this winter

Going on holiday or doing business abroad? Chances are you'll be flying directly to your destination from Schiphol again this winter.

Strong growth

The festive touch that has characterised the airport as it celebrates its 100th birthday this year will continue with a positive development of the route network and a substantial increase in the number of passengers. The strong growth from 58 million passengers in 2015 to an expected 63 million passengers at the end of this year means that Schiphol would climb from 5th place to 3rd in the European rankings, just behind London and Paris, thereby surpassing the Frankfurt and Istanbul airports.

While the arrival of Jet Airways with three daily flights (Mumbai, Delhi and Toronto), China Eastern with four connections per week from Shanghai, and Aero Mexico with three flights per week between Mexico City and Amsterdam led to a sharp increase in the network and passenger volume earlier this year, the 2016-2017 winter timetable also features a number of exciting expansions.

A newcomer this winter is Small Planet Airlines. The airline has its headquarters in Vilnius (Lithuania) and focuses mainly on the Mediterranean Sea with destinations of Las Palmas, Tenerife, Lanzarote, Hurghada, Ilha do Sal and Banjul.

KLM

KLM will add new destinations to its network from Amsterdam. These include Tehran (4x per week), Windhoek (3x per week), Dublin (2x daily), Miami (3x per week) and Colombo (2x per week). For those flying to St Maarten, this winter KLM will offer three direct flights per week. Windhoek is a destination that has never before been directly accessibly from Schiphol.

The airline is also increasing the number of weekly flights to several destinations, such as Buenos Aires in combination with Santiago de Chile, Havana and Stockholm.

Transavia

Transavia will begin its routes to Munich and Zurich in February.

easyJet

British carrier easyJet, with its own base and crew at Schiphol, is expanding to Lanzarote, Budapest and Zurich.

Other news

China Airlines will now offer four direct flights per week to Taipei, a route which for many years was flown via Bangkok.

The following airlines will implement flight frequency increases: Delta Air Lines to New York JFK, SAS to Stockholm, WOW Air to Reykjavik, TUIfly to Cape Verde and Flybe to Dundee.

With this network and together with all airlines, Schiphol aims to connect the Netherlands to the rest of the world. The routes will be operated according to the timetable which runs from Sunday 30 October 2016 through Saturday 25 March 2017.
