What does the maintenance involve? 
Annual maintenance is essential to keep the runways in good condition and safe for air traffic. On the Buitenveldertbaan Runway, asphalt and runway markings will be inspected and maintained where necessary. Electrical systems and cabling will be inspected, the stormwater drainage system will be flushed at various locations, surrounding grass areas will be mown, and lights will be cleaned or replaced. The work will be carried out in collaboration with construction company Heijmans. 

Use of Alternative Runways 
During the maintenance period, air traffic will make increased use of other runways. The Kaagbaan Runway may be used in a north-easterly direction as an alternative for departing aircraft. For arriving aircraft, the Schiphol-Oostbaan Runway will be used as an alternative to the Buitenveldertbaan Runway. Depending on wind conditions, air traffic may also use other runways. 

As a result, more aircraft may temporarily fly over the flight paths associated with these runways. We are aware that this may have an impact on local residents. That is why we plan runway maintenance carefully and do everything we can to carry it out as efficiently as possible.

Financial results: Schiphol invests in the future
The underlying net result (excluding the revaluation of commercial real estate) for the first half of 2026 amounted to a positive underlying result of 215 million euros (HY2025: 214 million euros). Revenue increased by 5.6% to 1,333 million euros (HY2025: 1,262 million euros). In the first six months of 2026, a record of 801 million euros was invested in the quality of the airports. This is in line with the strategy to invest 10 billion euros in the renewal of Schiphol between 2025 and 2035.

During the first half of 2026, investments were made in catching up on overdue maintenance, the completion of the A Pier and additional electricity capacity to support electrification. An important part of these investments is the agreement with KLM for the relocation of several buildings as part of the implementation of the Schiphol Centre Master Plan. In the first half of 2026, Schiphol paid 317 million euros for this relocation. With this important milestone, Schiphol is investing in the future of the airport.

Cash flow after CAPEX and other investments was 464 million euros negative. To deliver the major investment programme and quality improvements, robust financial results and a healthy operational cash flow are required, alongside additional funding. In March, Schiphol issued 500 million euros in bonds.

Fewer flights in the first half of the year
The first half of 2026 began with disruption caused by severe winter weather, leading to the cancellation of several thousand flights at Schiphol. This was followed by restrictions on air traffic linked to the war in the Middle East. A doubling of kerosene prices put pressure on airline networks, as well as on flight and passenger volumes to and from Schiphol. To help ensure the Netherlands remains connected, Schiphol introduced a temporary discount on airport charges. This targeted, temporary measure helped preserve routes and maintain Schiphol’s network, contributing to a recovery in air traffic during the second quarter. The discount had a temporary negative impact of 37 million euros on Schiphol’s financial results in the first half of the year.

More passengers per flight
The total number of passengers travelling through Royal Schiphol Group’s airports in the Netherlands increased slightly to 37.3 million (HY2025: 37.2 million). A total of 32.7 million passengers travelled to, from or via Schiphol. Although this represents a slight decrease (compared to 32.8 million in 2025), the average number of passengers per flight increased. This development confirms the expectation that passenger numbers will continue to grow, even with the same number of flight movements. Airlines are renewing their fleets and using larger and quieter aircraft. Schiphol expects passenger numbers to increase to at least 90 million passengers per year by 2050. 

The airport is therefore investing heavily in the renewal and improvement of its infrastructure, so that passengers can continue to travel comfortably, reliably and safely in the future. In addition, Royal Schiphol Group is investing between 35 and 40 million euros in preparing Lelystad Airport for the envisaged opening. Earlier this year, the Dutch government decided that the airport will open for commercial air traffic. We are preparing for passenger flights to commence in November 2027.

Increase in quieter aircraft at Schiphol 
The airport charges introduced by Schiphol in 2025 incentivise the use of quieter aircraft. The trend towards quieter flights continues: 38% of flights in the first half of 2026 fell within the two quietest charging categories, compared with 29% in the first half of 2025. The differentiated charging system also discourages the operation of noisier aircraft during the night. 

Measurements by NOMOS measurements points around Schiphol confirm the trend towards quieter flights. The average noise level generated by air traffic in 2025 was approximately 2 decibels lower than in 2018. The impact is also evident on a per-flight basis: newer aircraft types generate less noise during take-off and landing than the aircraft they replace. 

For European flights, a good example is the Airbus A320neo and A321neo, which are quieter than the Boeing 737 variants they replace. For intercontinental flights with larger aircraft, the newer Airbus A330neo, Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner have been measured as quieter than the Airbus A330 and Boeing 777. The mentioned newer aircraft types have been measured as 3 to 5 decibels quieter on departure than the older aircraft they replace. A reduction of 3 decibels represents a halving of the sound level. 


There were 223,597 air traffic movements at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. A 4% decrease compared to the first half year of 2025 (232,709 air traffic movements). Cargo volumes at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol increased by 10% to 0.8 million tonnes. There were 8,160 full cargo flights, an increase of 8% compared to 2025. In total, 42% of cargo was transported on passenger flights, while 58% was carried on full freighter flights.

Strong network keeps the Netherlands connected 
The Netherlands was connected to 301 direct destinations through Schiphol, including 122 intercontinental destinations. A strong network of connections is of great importance to the Netherlands’ international connectivity. During the first half of the year, new destinations were added, including destinations in Armenia, Montenegro and Vietnam. There were also changes to a number of European destinations, while some other destinations were discontinued. In recent months, Schiphol welcomed several new airlines that contribute to the further strengthening of the network: FlyOne Armenia, LATAM Airlines Brasil, Middle East Airlines, Syrian Air, Thai Airways and Vietnam Airlines. 

Important steps towards better quality of work 
In addition to investments in infrastructure, Schiphol also invested in the people who keep the airport running. Over recent months, Schiphol has taken important steps to improve the quality of work and working conditions. These steps also contribute to a reliable, resilient, efficient and future-proof service. Team Security, the airport’s new security organisation with three instead of five security companies, started in May. Schiphol also announced a new model for baggage and aircraft handling, reducing the number of handling companies from six to three. Schiphol also announced that it will take responsibility for providing assistance to passengers with reduced mobility. This service already forms an important part of Schiphol’s day-to-day operations and is expected to grow further in the coming years, underlining the importance of ensuring its continuity.

Assistance for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) is a vital and growing service at Schiphol. Axxicom Airport Caddy has been handling this on Schiphol’s behalf since 2003, assisting approximately 750,000 passengers to and from their flights annually. 

Transition period for staff 

The transition to the new order of affairs will require time and care. Nothing will change with regard to Axxicom Airport Caddy’s service provision in the short term. Step by step, Schiphol and Facilicom Groep will work to ensure a smooth transition together. That includes extensive attention to the continuity of services available to passengers and care for the nearly 1000 workers employed by Axxicom Airport Caddy. These workers will receive regular updates on the transition to Schiphol’s management in the coming period.

Agreements are still to be concluded regarding the timing, fulfilment and handover. Schiphol and Facilicom Groep have also made arrangements regarding job protection. All Axxicom Airport Caddy workers are assured of a job. Schiphol and Facilicom Groep will be proceeding in close consultation with the unions. Earlier this year, FNV presented a petition calling for internal contracting of these services. Schiphol has taken all viewpoints into account in its decisions.

This summer, millions of people will fly from Schiphol to destinations within and outside Europe. For some that will be a beach holiday, for others a visit to family or friends.

On average, Schiphol expects around 219,000 travellers per day this summer (including departures, arrivals and transfers). In the summer of 2025, this figure was around 213,000 travellers per day.

This equates to the following daily average traveller numbers:

• 71.000 departing travellers (last year: 69,000)
• 71.000 arriving travellers (last year: 70,000)
• 77.000 transferring travellers (last year: 74,000)

The increase compared with last year shows that Schiphol continues to play a vital role in connecting the Netherlands with the rest of the world. For holidaymakers, business travellers and all other visitors from home and abroad, the airport will once again be the starting point and destination for millions of journeys this summer.

Popular destinations
This summer season, many travellers are flying from Schiphol to familiar holiday destinations. Spain, the United Kingdom and Greece once again top the list, followed by Italy, Turkey and the United States. Countries such as Portugal, Germany, France and Ireland also remain popular. The picture is therefore virtually the same as last year, with only minor shifts in the rankings.

8 tips for a smooth journey

1. Plan your journey to Schiphol carefully. Take possible congestion and roadworks into account, as well as disruption to public transport, and decide in advance which is the best way for you to travel to the airport.

2. Check in online if possible. Please adhere to the arrival times recommended by the airline (usually 2 hours before European flights and 3 hours before intercontinental flights).

3. Make use of free timeslots for security. Go smoothly through the security check by booking a timeslot using the Schiphol app or on Schiphol.nl. This can be done as early as three days before departure.

4. Travel smart. Pack handily, wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and remove old suitcase labels and barcode stickers from your hold baggage. Thanks to 3D CT scans, electronics do not need to be taken out of hand baggage. Liquids, gels, creams and pastes can only be taken in containers not exceeding 100 ml. 

5. Power banks. Always in your hand baggage. Power banks are not allowed in hold baggage. This is an international safety requirement. Most power banks consist of lithium-ion batteries, and these can overheat due to damage, breakdown or short-circuiting. When this happens, the battery gets increasingly hot and can even catch fire. So always carry your power bank in your hand baggage.

6. Check your documents. Check that your passport is valid and, where possible, use the self-service passport control. Please ensure you join the correct queue at passport control on arrival. Travellers with an EU passport do not need to use the EES kiosks and can follow the signs for EU travellers. Please pay particular attention to the rules when travelling with minors.

7. Be aware of customs rules. Find out in advance what can and cannot be brought into the country upon your return. This information can be found on douane.nl. 

8. Up-to-date information for a smooth arrival. Use the Schiphol app, website or WhatsApp to receive real-time updates on your flight, walking and waiting times, and the progress of your journey through the terminal. This way, you can easily keep track from the moment you land to the moment you leave the airport.

These three companies scored highest on five pre-defined qualitative criteria, including service provision, employment practices and collaboration. The parties will be required to share equipment more frequently and to invest further in sustainability.

The selection of these three ground handling providers marks the end of the current open market. These companies will be granted a seven-year concession to provide baggage and aircraft handling services at Schiphol, and they will enter into contracts with airlines themselves.  

Transition period for employees  

The transition period following a tender process is a tense and demanding time for employees who are moving to a new employer. The airport, the trade union and ground handling companies are paying close attention to this. No jobs will be lost at Schiphol as a result of this tender. The aim is to support employees in moving from one job to another, whilst maintaining their terms and conditions of employment. To make this possible, solid agreements have been reached between the ground handling employers’ association (WPBL) and the FNV trade union.  

Final award   

This tender follows a decision by the Minister for Infrastructure and Water Management to regulate the ground handling market at Schiphol. The final award is expected in the third quarter of 2026. This will be followed by a transition period. Schiphol expects airlines to have concluded contracts with ground handling providers by the end of 2026, so that employees will have the necessary clarity by early 2027. The new partnerships will commence in the second quarter of 2027.   

Two clubs received a contribution of €10,000. AKU athletics club in Uithoorn will use the funds to purchase a second long jump pit and R.S.V.U. Okeanos in Amsterdam to purchase a new boat. Other donations were for the purchase of a balance beam, artificial grass for a golf course, badminton rackets and flippers for a diving club.  

Thanks to the new donations, clubs can maintain their value to the neighbourhood and enable more people to participate in sporting and social activities. The large number of applications to the Schiphol Fund shows how important the fund is to sports clubs in the Schiphol area.  

The Schiphol Fund holds four annual donation rounds for initiatives that contribute to physical activity and connection.

Second round of Schiphol Fund donations 2026 

The Master Plan describes how Schiphol will develop over the next 25 years into a high-quality and more sustainable airport in balance with its environment. This is aimed at improving the passenger experience, working conditions, and service for airlines. At the same time, Schiphol is working to reduce noise and further improve sustainability.

With this agreement, Schiphol and KLM make three developments possible. First, space is created for the aircraft fleet of the future, with new aircraft stands for larger, wider aircraft. Second, the development of the new Terminal South is made possible. This new terminal ensures that Schiphol provides the required space for the growing number of travellers. Finally, KLM and Schiphol jointly invest in a strengthened air cargo sector for the Netherlands.

More space, comfort and quality
The relocation of the KLM buildings gives Schiphol the space to continue its renewal. It also improves the accessibility of the airport. The capacity of the current terminal is insufficient for the current number of passengers and, due to the deployment of larger aircraft, the number of travellers at Schiphol is expected to grow further. With the new Terminal South to be built, and with the A-pier which will be taken into use next year, Schiphol provides that required space and comfort for passengers.

Schiphol is working to ensure that by 2030 the airport and all ground activities produce 90% fewer emissions than in 2019. This is partly being achieved by constructing new buildings without gas connections and in line with the latest sustainability standards.

Modern and central cargo area
In line with the strategic goals, Schiphol is also investing in the future of the cargo sector. The KLM buildings will move to the to-be-developed cargo facility “Vracht 15” in Schiphol South-East. Here, a modern, centrally organised and easily accessible cargo area will emerge, with more space for efficiency, good working conditions and sustainable solutions. The buildings of KLM Catering Services and Topside will also relocate to new locations at Schiphol.

Next steps
Now that this agreement has been signed, Schiphol and KLM will start the next phase of the project. In the short term, the design phase for the new cargo building in Schiphol South-East will begin. The tender for architects is currently ongoing. In addition, several projects will be initiated to make the relocation of the activities, the development of Schiphol Centre and the new cargo area possible.

Schiphol deploys the TaxiBot on the Polderbaan Runway because this is the runway with the longest taxi time. As a result, potential fuel savings can reach up to 65 percent. Lower kerosene consumption means reduced emissions of CO₂, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and (ultra)fine particles. This reduction is important for the environment and, above all, better for employees on the ground. Lower emissions result in cleaner air and less noise on the apron, which directly contributes to a safer, healthier and more pleasant workplace. 

How the TaxiBot works  
The TaxiBot, powered by supplier Smart Airport Systems, is a special tug that can move aircraft from the gate to the runway at speeds of up to 23 knots (42 km/h). The pilot controls the TaxiBot from the cockpit and only starts the aircraft engines just before departure on the runway. An employee sits in the TaxiBot and drives the vehicle back to the gate for the next flight after uncoupling. 

Scaling up and next steps 
Schiphol currently has the world’s only electric TaxiBot and is using it to gain practical experience. Another three electric TaxiBots are expected to arrive later this year. This will allow deployment to be expanded to more aircraft types. Schiphol is working on the certification for Embraer aircraft with KLM Cityhopper and other parties. Transavia will soon participate with their Boeing 737 fleet.

To be better prepared for snow and freezing conditions, Schiphol and KLM are focusing on a joint winter readiness plan, improved passenger support and communication, and improved de-icing capacity.

The evaluation shows that the early January disruption was caused by a combination of factors. Snowfall began earlier and was heavier than forecast, significantly increasing demand for aircraft de-icing and longer handling times. At the same time, it proved difficult to reduce flight volumes quickly and sufficiently. As a result, decision-making and operational scaling occurred later than needed, leading to a disruption with major impact on passengers and staff.

The report concludes that extreme weather conditions in aviation will always lead to delays and cancellations. At the same time, Schiphol and KLM see opportunities to improve their response. They will therefore work together, where necessary, with other airport stakeholders to implement the report’s recommendations. Suitcases are being packed and plans are being made. For many people, the moment of departure is drawing near. Travellers are flying from Schiphol to popular destinations including Spain, the United Kingdom and Italy to enjoy sunshine, time with family and city breaks. And the holiday feeling already starts at Schiphol. At the same time, we are also preparing for returning travellers. The airport is just as much a point of arrival as of departure after all. For many people, Schiphol is the first welcome home after their holiday.

Committed to a pleasant and safe journey

Entry/Exit System (EES): not for Dutch nationals
The European Entry/Exit System (EES) was recently introduced by the European Union. It applies within the Schengen area to travellers with a non-EU passport entering or leaving Europe. These travellers go through an additional registration step at kiosks, after which the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee carry out border control. Nothing changes for Dutch nationals and all other travellers with an EU passport. They do not need to queue for EES and can follow the signs for EU travellers and, where possible, use self-service passport control.

The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee is responsible for border control and passport checks, and watches over security at the airport. Customs monitors the goods entering and leaving the Netherlands. Together with Schiphol Security and all other partners at the airport, they ensure calm, clarity and a predictable journey both upon departure and arrival in the Netherlands.

Lounge 1
A lot of work has been done in the terminal to ensure a pleasant start to the holidays. In Lounge 1, there are 23 new shops and catering establishments, including Today Duty Free and Dutch brands such as My Jewellery and Donsje. Travellers who want to take a look around before their flight now have a lot more to discover. Furthermore, a new clock by Maarten Baas was unveiled in early April. With a playful and typically Dutch design, it’s a tribute to everyone who keeps Schiphol running day and night.

Conny Braams was Chief Digital and Commercial Officer at Unilever and member of the executive committee until 2023. She was responsible for the company’s worldwide digital and commercial transformation. Before that, she held various managament positions at Unilever in Europe and Asia.

The Supervisory Board has appointed Braams due to her broad experience with transformation, leadership in large international organisations and supervisory roles. Her knowledge of organisational change, people-oriented leadership, retail management and consumer experiences aligns with Schiphol's challenge to continue innovating and improving as a home for world travellers in the Netherlands. Braams will serve as chair of the People Committee within the Supervisory Board.

International experience in airport operations
Ugo de Carolis is CEO of MSX International. From 2016 to 2020, he was CEO of Aeroporti di Roma, where he was responsible for the operation and development of Rome's airports. During that period, the airport made a significant leap in quality and was recognised as the best airport in Europe for several consecutive years.

The Supervisory Board has appointed De Carolis due to his extensive experience in aviation, infrastructure and logistics. His knowledge of airport operations and the improvement of quality and service is a perfect fit for Schiphol as a home base and international hub connecting the Netherlands to the world.

Simone Brummelhuis and Declan Collier step down
As of 14 April 2026, Simone Brummelhuis and Declan Collier are stepping down as members of the Supervisory Board. The board expresses its deep appreciation for their dedication and contribution to Schiphol over the past few years.

PFAS are found in soil and water throughout the Netherlands. Schiphol has taken the initiative to carry out research and involve several parties with relevant expertise. By conducting these investigations, Schiphol is able to identify (potentially) contaminated sites. This enables the airport to take measures and prevent the spread of PFAS as much as possible. All provinces in the Netherlands have now been instructed by the government to assess PFAS. By commissioning research, Schiphol aims to contribute to resolving the PFAS problem in the Netherlands. 

PFAS-related studies are being carried out by the independent consultancy firm Terrascan. Schiphol is consulting with the North Sea Canal Area Environmental Service (Omgevingsdienst Noordzeekanaalgebied) and the Rijnland Regional Water Authority (Hoogheemraadschap van Rijnland) on the approach to PFAS. Schiphol has also sought advice from the Kennemerland Municipal Health Service (GGD Kennemerland) on the health risks of PFAS to residents. Each of these parties has its own role and expertise when it comes to assessing risks and monitoring water and soil quality. 

Soil survey   

In the past, fire-fighting foam containing PFAS was used at the airport, as this was mandatory for the airport fire service. This represents a complex and extensive legacy from the past. In a historical soil investigation into PFAS, research agency Terrascan examined all available information from Schiphol’s past.  

This study identified over 100 locations on the Schiphol site as places where PFAS could be present in the soil based on historical records.* Of these, it is now clear that 11 are not PFAS sites, whilst 27 do contain PFAS in the soil. Follow-up investigations are being carried out, but soil surveys are extensive and time-consuming. Terrascan has provided advice on which sites should be prioritised, based on the risks of contamination spreading through soil and water. At least 10 to 15 soil investigations will be launched this year.  

The locations where PFAS are found in the soil at Schiphol do not pose a health risk to employees. Prior to any ground works, investigations are always conducted and work is always carried out in accordance with established safety regulations. 

Water survey  

Soil contamination is causing elevated concentrations of PFAS in the surface water at the airport. The investigation into water quality at the airport shows that consistently higher concentrations of PFAS are being measured in the water at four locations compared to other areas on the airport site. These areas are near the Sloten Fire Station, the area around the terminal and the Schiphol main building, Schiphol Zuidoost, and the area to the east of the 36R end of the Aalsmeerbaan runway. 

At two points where water from Schiphol meets water outside Schiphol, PFAS levels have been measured that exceed the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) advisory limits for bathing water and irrigation. At four other discharge points where water leaves the Schiphol site, the water quality was within the applicable advisory limits. The patterns observed by the Rijnland Regional Water Authority in its own published measurements correspond with the findings described in Schiphol’s water survey.   

Schiphol will enter into discussions with the competent authorities regarding the action plan. The Rijnland Regional Water Authority is advising on the identification and prioritisation of locations where measures will be most effective, and on measures to limit the spread to surface water. 

Advice for local residents  

Many people in the Netherlands consume more PFAS through food and drinking water alone than is considered safe according to the public health limit. PFAS are present in the environment throughout the Netherlands, and we all have PFAS in our bodies. PFAS do not break down in the environment and can be harmful to humans. It is therefore important to prevent these substances from entering the environment. 

To prevent additional exposure to PFAS via surface water, the Health Service advises swimming only at official swimming locations, not eating fish caught in the waters around Schiphol as a precaution, and not using water from areas with PFAS levels above advisory limits for vegetable gardens. 

Follow-up research and measures  

Schiphol will continue to carry out soil surveys and water measurements in collaboration with Terrascan. Schiphol is taking measures to minimise the risks posed by PFAS to people and the environment as effectively as possible. Work is already underway on soil remediation and groundwater treatment, including at the airport’s cargo apron. Later in 2026, the soil treatment plant at the airport will be commissioned.  

Schiphol is following the advice of Terrascan and coordinating further steps with the North Sea Canal Area Environmental Service, the Rijnland Regional Water Authority and the Kennemerland Municipal Health Service, to ensure that measures comply with the applicable regulatory and health frameworks.  

For each location, an assessment is being made of whether there are any risks, what those risks are, and which approach is most appropriate. Schiphol is also exchanging knowledge on this subject internationally, for example with Copenhagen Airport. As PFAS sites vary greatly and there is no standard solution, each site requires a customised approach.

Schiphol is set to work with a new team of in-house architects to implement the investment programme planned for the coming years. This programme, known as the Schiphol Master Plan, aims to improve the quality of the airport and provide more space and comfort for travellers. In implementing this programme, Schiphol will work from a unified design vision, ensuring that simplicity and a consistent, sustainable design style are reflected throughout the airport. Schiphol intends to award the contract to KAAN Architects, LVZJA (Luis Vidal + architects and ZJA), Paul de Ruiter Architects, and Beacon (Benthem Crouwel Architects and NACO).

New traveller-centred design
Schiphol was originally designed as a ‘one terminal airport’, featuring a compact, well-organised layout with short check-in and transfer times. The design style is functional in nature and serves the needs of travellers; throughout the journey, the airport must offer tranquillity, clear wayfinding and clarity. With the growth in passenger numbers over recent decades, the simplicity, authenticity and distinct identity that characterised Schiphol’s design DNA have faded into the background.

Major renovations, recognisable look
In line with the strategy and Master Plan presented in 2025, many parts of the terminal will be renovated over the coming years. A unified design vision will ensure that Schiphol retains a coherent, recognisable look throughout. The focus is on the traveller experience, functionality and quality, ensuring that the refurbished areas meet the travellers’ needs. At the same time, attention is being paid to costs, maintenance, modular construction and sustainability, so that buildings and facilities remain in good condition in the long term. The extensive investment programme thus offers the opportunity to bring greater consistency and clarity to the design of all areas.

To implement these plans, Schiphol will collaborate with new in-house architects, each of whom will be responsible for a section of the airport. To this end, Schiphol launched a European tender in December 2024, which attracted considerable interest from recognised architectural firms both at home and abroad.

Intention to award contracts
Schiphol intends to select four firms for the six different lots in the tender. KAAN Architecten, as lead architect, will be responsible for the overarching design vision, which will serve as a guideline for future designs.

LVZJA (Luis Vidal + architects and ZJA) has been selected for three of the four airport areas. They will produce the designs for Schiphol Plaza and the lounges, for the piers, gates and walkways, and for the landside passenger areas and parking facilities.

Paul de Ruiter Architects will be responsible for the design of the departure halls, baggage halls and security and customs screening areas. Beacon (Benthem Crouwel Architects and NACO) will act as the airport consultant, supporting the teams with technical and airport-specific expertise.

Working together to create a distinctive Schiphol
Together, these parties form the architectural team that will shape the redevelopment of Schiphol over the coming years. This long-term collaboration will contribute to design consistency, an improved traveller experience, efficiency and cost optimisation across the various redevelopment projects.

First round of Schiphol Fund donations 2026 

Two periods between March and June 
The work will be carried out in two phases; between 9 March and 12 April work will take place on taxiway B, and between 4 May and 26 June on taxiway A. By splitting the project into phases, the May holiday period is deliberately avoided, keeping the impact on local residents and travellers to a minimum. In addition to the taxiway works, Schiphol is combining as many surrounding maintenance activities as possible during this period, such as the annual routine maintenance on the Polderbaan and Zwanenburgbaan runways. By carrying out these works simultaneously, Schiphol prevents additional disruption. 
 

Use of other runways at peak times 
Although the maintenance work is being carried out on the taxiways, it may affect runway use at peak times. During the work on the taxiways and their exits, fewer aircraft can taxi to and from the Polderbaan and Zwanenburgbaan runways at the same time. Therefore, during daytime peak moments, the Buitenveldertbaan Runway will sometimes be used instead of the Zwanenburgbaan Runway, in combination with the Polderbaan Runway. The Buitenveldertbaan will only be used when a combination of wind direction and traffic volumes makes that necessary. The Schiphol-Oostbaan Runway would be a logical alternative in terms of wind direction, but Schiphol deliberately chooses not to use this runway more frequently for landings out of consideration for the local community. 

The possible alternative flight routes may be noticeable to people living near Schiphol. For more information or questions about air traffic and runway use during the maintenance period, local residents can contact the Local Community Contact Centre (Bewonersaanspreekpunt Schiphol). 

Highest passenger satisfaction in years 
The investments in the quality of the airport are beginning to pay off. This is reflected in the 2025 passenger satisfaction score, which reached its highest level in ten years (excluding the COVID period). The average rating given by passengers in 2025 was 3.84 (on a scale of 5). Travellers feel welcome at the airport. They appreciate the atmosphere, the smooth flow at security that allows them to reach the terminal quickly, and the renewed range of food, drink and retail options. 

New charges enabling investment and further noise reduction 
Schiphol’s new airport charges are essential to enable the investments in quality for travellers, airlines, employees and the local community. The airport charges encourage the use of quieter aircraft. Of all aircraft operating between April and December 2025, 32.6% fell within the two quietest tariff categories, an increase of almost 8.8% compared with last year. Tariff differentiation also discourages night-time flights. 

Financial results 
The underlying net result (without revaluation of real estate) for 2025 amounts to 550 million euros (2024: 291 million euros). The increase is due to more passengers and flights and new airport charges. Revenue increased by 23% to 2,761 million euros (2024: 2,245 million euros). In 2025, 1,056 million euros was invested in the quality of the airports, including catching up on overdue maintenance. Cash flow after CAPEX and other investments was 22 million euros negative. Schiphol will distribute 162 million euros in dividend to its shareholders over 2025. Until 2035, Schiphol will invest 10 billion euros to improve the quality of the airports. Solid financial management therefore remains essential to realise this investment agenda and to maintain a healthy financial foundation.

More travellers 
Schiphol again delivered good operational performance in 2025, including smoothly managed holiday periods. On the busiest days of the year, 95% of passengers passed through security within ten minutes. Passenger numbers at Royal Schiphol Group airports in the Netherlands increased by 3% to 78.1 million (2024: 75.9 million, 2019: 80.5 million). 68.8 million passengers flew via Schiphol (+3% compared to 2024), with 48.9 million traveling within Europe and 19.9 million intercontinentally.

There were 477,552 air traffic movements at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. A 1% increase compared to 2024 (473,815 air traffic movements). Cargo volumes at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol decreased by 4% to 1.43 million tonnes. There were 15,348 full cargo flights. That is a decrease of 2% compared to 2024. In total, 44% of cargo was transported on passenger flights, while 56% was carried on full freighter flights.

Destinations 
Schiphol directly connected the Netherlands to 300 destinations, 124 of them intercontinental. According to the ACI Airport Industry Connectivity Report 2025, Schiphol is Europe’s second‑best connected airport in terms of direct connectivity. In hub connectivity, Schiphol ranks third in Europe and fifth worldwide.

Outlook for 2026 
The 2025 annual figures confirm that demand for air travel remains consistently high. In 2026, Schiphol Group will continue working to improve and strengthen Schiphol’s role as an international hub for the Netherlands. Schiphol expects traveller numbers to increase further in 2026, partly because of the deployment of larger and new aircraft. For calendar year 2026, Schiphol anticipates between 68-72 million travellers. In 2026, a maximum of 478,000 aircraft movements will be permitted at Schiphol. The forecast for the new operating year shows that the trend towards further noise reduction will continue: 15% quieter during the day and 32% quieter at night.

With this coalition agreement, aviation is increasingly being approached as a single coherent system that contributes to the broad prosperity and resilience of the Netherlands. The parties forming the coalition are taking into account the balance between accessibility, the living environment, climate and the economic value of aviation. Schiphol remains committed to further noise reduction and we are convinced that, together with the sector, we can ensure that it becomes 50% quieter around Schiphol at night. The P3 long-stay car park will soon have space for approximately 18,000 cars, about half of which will be covered. There are currently 5,000 sheltered parking spaces in the two existing car parks, and the new parking garage will add more than 4,000 sheltered spaces. The garage will have six parking levels. By building upwards in the same location, Schiphol is making the most efficient use of the space available.   

Improved accessibility and parking capacity 
Schiphol is looking ahead to the future with its new parking garage. The airport expects a further increase in the number of travellers, partly due to the use of new, larger aircraft. This will also increase the demand for parking spaces at Schiphol. With this new parking garage, Schiphol will ensure sufficient parking for travellers and that the airport remains easily accessible.   

Sustainability at the heart of design and construction 
An integrated approach and sustainability are at the heart of the design, materials used, and construction. The new parking garage will have a wooden façade and an energy-positive roof with over 9,000 solar panels. Low-carbon concrete will be used, as well as recycled materials where possible. Construction will be carried out producing as little emissions as possbile, partly through the use of electrical equipment, including electric pile drivers and cranes. BAM's design has also taken into account the efficient maintenance of the car park after completion. 

Schiphol is building the airport of the future   
The new parking garage is part of a broader investment programme to improve the airport. Schiphol aims to return to the top three European hub airports by delivering quality to travellers, employees and airlines and by maintaining a balance with the environment and society. The new capacity at the P3 long-stay car park contributes to more parking options for travellers and better accessibility.   

The joint evaluation will focus on the effectiveness of operational and communication processes during the winter weather, with specific attention to runway and apron capacity, de-icing, passenger communications, industry collaboration, and safety. The aim of the evaluation is to identify opportunities for improvement to enhance operations and the overall passenger experience.

The findings and recommendations are expected to be shared with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management by the end of March.

Schiphol has been connecting the Netherlands with the world for more than a century. Because Schiphol plays an important role in the accessibility of the Netherlands, it is important that this infrastructure remains strong and resilient, also in times of crisis and conflict. That is why Schiphol is working with the Royal Netherlands Air and Space Force to create an environment that is prepared for various scenarios, without compromising on safety or quality. The training has been carefully planned and integrated into the airport's daily operations so that regular air traffic can continue as usual.

Why this training is important
It is essential for the Ministry of Defence that military aircraft are not solely dependent on fixed military air bases. By also being able to operate from other locations such as Schiphol, the air force remains deployable whenever the situation requires it. In addition to the F-35s, one transport and tanker aircraft from the Multinational MRTT Unit (MMU) will participate in the exercise. This unit provides air transport and in-flight refuelling for aircraft within NATO. The training consists of several planned departure and arrival times, which will take place during the day on 27 and 28 January. After departure, the aircraft will fly on to regular training areas used by the Ministry of Defence.

Impact on local environment
The exercise is being conducted in close coordination between the Ministry of Defence and Schiphol, in cooperation with Air Traffic Control the Netherlands (LVNL) and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (I&W). The surrounding municipalities and relevant societal and administrative parties have been informed in advance. The exercise has been carefully prepared and will be carried out in a controlled manner. The noise caused by the aircraft movements may be noticeable in the surrounding area, but this is temporary and will only occur within the context of this training exercise. Safety and consideration for our local environment and community are top priorities.

We continue to build a strong, connected and future-proof Netherlands. By practising together with the Royal Netherlands Air and Space Force, we reinforce our joint capacity to continue operating safely and reliably under a variety of circumstances.

Prior to that, he led the mobility division of technology company Siemens. He also spent nearly ten years at ProRail, where he was responsible for overall asset management and the maintenance of the rail infrastructure. 

Cargo 
The total transported air cargo volume in November was 129,287 tonnes, an increase of 7% compared to November 2024. Notably, cargo carried on passenger flights increased by 1% year-on-year. In total, 42% of the cargo was transported on passenger flights and 58% on full freighter flights. The number of full freighter flights was 1,345 in November 2025, an increase of 4% compared to November 2024.

The largest donation of €10,000 went to Special Olympics Haarlem 2026 for the purchase of bocce courts. Bocce is a form of bowling or boules.

124 sports clubs in 2025

In 2025, 124 sports clubs received a donation from the Schiphol Fund. The total amount awarded was more than €450,000. Last year, there were 81 sports clubs.

About the Schiphol Fund

The Schiphol Fund was set up in 1994 at the initiative of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and with the aim of demonstrating the airport's social commitment to the local community. Every year the Schiphol Fund receives a donation from the airport and supports projects related to physical activity and sport.

Schiphol will announce details about succession in due course. 

Ground handling companies and their employees play a crucial role at Schiphol. They ensure that passengers and baggage enter and leave the aircraft on time and that all work around the aircraft is carried out with care. By outsourcing ground handling, we can intentionally select our partners and organise the collaboration more effectively. 

From open market to higher standard  
The current open market is characterised by fierce competition and limited control over quality. The introduction of a sector-wide collective labour agreement (CLA) in 2023 was an important step towards improving working conditions. This tender follows the decision by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, on the initiative of Schiphol, to work with a select group of handling companies. They will work at the airport under a concession agreement based on contracts they enter into with the airlines.  

Quality requirements
Reducing the number of handling companies offers opportunities for smarter and more efficient organisation. Ground handling companies are being asked to make more joint use of handling equipment, which creates space on the apron and ensures more sustainable use of resources. In addition, we are setting further requirements on the working conditions for employees and the quality of service. Travellers will notice this in the form of shorter waiting times for their baggage on arrival. The tender requirements have been carefully drawn up and consulted with airlines, handlers, stakeholders and the trade union. 

Retaining knowledge and experience 
The knowledge and experience of these employees is invaluable. Schiphol wants them to keep working at the airport under good working conditions, to enjoy their work and find it rewarding. That is why retaining existing jobs and employment conditions is an important principle. The handling companies represented by the WPBL (Werkgeversvereniging Passagiers- en Bagageafhandeling Luchtvaart), the FNV trade union and Schiphol have jointly signed a covenant in which we have made additional collective labour agreement arrangements for the transition phase. 
 

Transparent and thorough process 
The tendering process will be carried out within the framework of European legislation. The tender will be published on 4 December 2025 and completed in the third quarter of 2026. This will be followed by a transition period, so that all new collaborations can start in the first quarter of 2027. The new contracts will have a term of seven years, providing stability and certainty for the longer term. Schiphol thus aims to be and remain an attractive place of work and to guarantee the continuity of airport operations.

Renovating and rebuilding for more space, comfort and quality 
The current terminal and accessibility of Schiphol are inadequate for the number of travellers. More space and better accessibility are essential for quality and contribute to the resilience of our national airport. Extra space is also needed to modernise outdated parts of the airport while allowing people to continue travelling. In the Schiphol Centre Master Plan, the airport has described what it believes Schiphol Centre should ideally look like by 2050.

• New Terminal South. Plan for the construction of a new terminal with plenty of light, space and peace and quiet. This will ensure a pleasant travel experience for future travellers. Schiphol will retain its unique design and one-terminal concept, with everything under one roof and within walking distance.
• Renovation and sustainability improvements to piers. Schiphol will open Pier A in 2027 and then renovate Piers B, C, D and H/M. Less sustainable piers will thus be replaced and more space for travellers and larger, quieter, cleaner aircraft will be created. According to the plan, additional gates will be needed for the largest aircraft.
• More space, renovated catering facilities, shops and seating areas. Plan to renovate traveller areas and lounges to further improve the travel experience. The recently renovated Lounge 1 already shows how Schiphol is becoming more spacious, modern and comfortable.
• Better accessibility. Schiphol is improving the roads in and around the airport and working on public transport, including plans for a new metro line between Amsterdam, Schiphol and Hoofddorp. This will ensure that the airport remains easily accessible for everyone who works there or travels through it. Better accessibility also contributes to the airport's resilience.

Schiphol is currently working on the phasing of the proposed construction projects. Schiphol is consulting with airlines and other parties involved regarding user requirements, planning, phasing and costs.

Improving sustainability 
Schiphol is working to ensure that the airport and all ground activities will produce 90% fewer emissions in 2030 than in 2019. This will be achieved by, among other things, using less and less gas and by using electric transport to and from the airport. It will also be achieved by constructing new buildings, such as the new Pier A and yet-to-be-renovated Pier C in accordance with the latest sustainability insights. 

The government's ambition is for aircraft emissions to be reduced to 2005 levels by 2030. Included in this is an increasing obligation to blend more sustainable fuel. Currently, the proportion of blended, more sustainable fuel at Schiphol is at least 2%. Schiphol participates in alliances that aim for accelerated sustainability on an international scale and in line with the Paris Agreement. Schiphol leads the international TULIPS partnership, which strives to speed up and implement innovations and sustainability at airports. 

Schiphol is also working with ground handling companies, Air Traffic Control the Netherlands and airlines to reduce emissions at and around the piers. One example of an initiative is the electrification of vehicles. Schiphol provides power and air-conditioning for aircraft at various locations so that parked planes can switch off their engines. With the planned renovation of Pier C, Schiphol is expanding this to include all gates at the airport. Schiphol has also purchased four electric TaxiBots, which drive aircraft to and from the runway, allowing their engines to remain switched off. 
 

Strategic Plan 
The Schiphol Centre Master Plan illustrates what Schiphol will look like in 2050 according to the current plans. In addition, Schiphol Group has a new strategic plan for the 2025 to 2035 period. This strategic plan consists of six pillars: 1) Schiphol returning to the top three European hub airports in terms of quality, 2) balance with the (local) environment and society, 3) better working conditions, 4) development of regional airports, 5) international cooperation and 6) a financially robust Schiphol.

Cargo 
The total transported air cargo volume in October was 131,543 tonnes, a decrease compared to October 2024. Notably, cargo carried on passenger flights decreased by 4% year-on-year. In total, 43% of the cargo was transported on passenger flights and 57% on full freighter flights. The number of full freighter flights was 1,388 in October 2025, the same amount as October 2024.

In addition to international brands such as Lindt, Leonidas, and Godiva, the store also shines a spotlight on Dutch chocolatiers, including Visser Chocolate, De Bonte Koe, and MADAQ. At a unique Pierre Hermé counter, from one of France’s most renowned pastry chefs, travelers can choose from a carefully curated selection of macarons and chocolates. This counter marks the first shop-in-shop of the famous pâtissier in the Netherlands. A handmade chocolate windmill forms the centerpiece of the store, offering a subtle tribute to traditional Dutch craftsmanship.

The store team has been specially trained to offer travelers a personal and high-quality service. Staff members even attended training with Pierre Hermé’s team in Paris to master the finer details of the craft.

Renovated Lounge 1
The opening of Chocolate House underscores the joint commitment of Schiphol and Lagardère Travel Retail to surprise travelers with innovative, world-class concepts. Earlier this year, Today Duty Free, the airport’s largest store and the first realization within the joint venture between Schiphol and Lagardère Travel Retail, was opened. This launch is also part of the large-scale revitalization of Lounge 1, the area where passengers stay after security checks for European flights.

The lounge has been expanded from 19,000 to 24,000 square meters and now features 23 new retail and hospitality concepts. With these developments, Schiphol takes an important step forward in enhancing the quality, diversity, and experience for travelers.

Further increase in quieter aircraft 

Schiphol has been using airport charges to encourage airlines to use quieter aircraft for some time. The new charges, which have been in effect since 1 April 2025, make the use of quieter aircraft even more financially attractive. The quieter the aircraft, the relatively lower the tariffs the airlines pay to fly to and from Schiphol. Flying during the day is also cheaper than flying at night. 

The new charges have led to increased use of the quietest aircraft. From April to June 2025, 30% of aircraft belonged to the two quietest tariff classes (S6, S7). In 2024, that figure was 23%. This trend continued in the following months; from July to September 2025, 33% of all aircraft movements at Schiphol were carried out with the quietest aircraft. This shows that airlines, encouraged by the further tightening of tariff differentiation, are increasingly opting for quieter aircraft, thereby contributing to a quieter Schiphol.   

Forecast for 2026: decrease in aircraft noise to continue 

The forecast published today for the 2026 operating year (1 November 2025 to 31 October 2026) confirms that the long-term trend of less aircraft noise around Schiphol is set to continue. The forecast shows a further decline in noise nuisance in the surrounding area. This development is being accelerated by the use of quieter aircraft and targeted measures, such as discouraging night flights. Schiphol remains actively committed to continuing this trend and is working with the aviation sector to create an airport that is more in balance with its surroundings.   

Schiphol's annual usage forecast provides insight into the expected number of aircraft movements, runway usage and noise nuisance around the airport. In the 2026 operating year, Schiphol now expects a total of 476,800 aircraft movements, 25,200 of which will be at night.

What does the maintenance involve 
Routine maintenance is essential to keep the runways in good condition and safe for air traffic. On the Zwanenburgbaan, repairs will be made to the asphalt and markings. Electrical systems and cabling will be inspected, the stormwater drainage system will be flushed at various locations, surrounding grass areas will be mown, and lights will be cleaned or replaced. 

On Taxiway C, several key works will be carried out to improve and future-proof the infrastructure. Two layers of asphalt will be replaced, and deeper layers will be repaired where necessary to restore the taxiway’s condition. Drainage will be improved to ensure better runoff of rainwater. Lighting will be upgraded and made more sustainable: old halogen lamps will be replaced with energy-efficient LED lighting, including new cabling and transformer pits. Use of alternative runways 
During the maintenance period, air traffic will make increased use of other runways, such as the preferent Polderbaan and Kaagbaan. Departing traffic might also make use of the Buitenveldertbaan runway. Arriving traffic will more frequently use the Buitenveldertbaan and the Schiphol-Oostbaan. As a result, more aircraft may temporarily fly over the flight paths associated with these runways, depending on the wind. We are aware that this may have an impact on local residents. That is why we plan runway maintenance carefully and do everything we can to carry it out as efficiently as possible.

Cargo 
The total transported air cargo volume in September was 118,685 tonnes, a decrease compared to September 2024 (129,351). Notably, cargo carried on passenger flights decreased by 4% year-on-year. In total, 44% of the cargo was transported on passenger flights and 56% on full freighter flights. The number of full freighter flights was 1,257 in September 2025, almost 10% lower than September 2024 (1,391).

Poké Perfect Schiphol Plaza is open daily from 10:00 to 22:00 and is located in Arrival Hall 1, opposite Café Rembrandt.

The new style supports this new direction and gives the airport a recognisable and coherent image, both physically and digitally. 

Today is the day  
With its central brand concept, ‘Today is the day’, the airport shows that every day at Schiphol revolves around making a difference for travellers. ‘Today is the day’ is all about the feelings that travellers experience at important moments, whether it's the day of departure, homecoming or encounter. It's about the excitement of a new adventure, the joy of a reunion or the start of something big. Schiphol wants that day to run smoothly and pleasantly, with clarity and confidence.  

Schiphol was originally designed around the needs of travellers – the airport should offer calm and clarity during the travel process. With its revamped visual identity, Schiphol is bringing back a sense of quality. The new design ensures recognisability in all communications, from screens in the terminal to information on mobile phones. 

Visible improvements 
The new brand style will appear in the coming days at Schiphol Plaza, in the arrival halls, on the first electric buses and, from 14 October, on digital channels. This autumn, the facades of departure halls 1, 2, and 3 will follow. Over the next two to three years, the updated identity will be gradually implemented throughout the airport, ensuring a consistent and enhanced Schiphol experience. 

Creating the redesigned brand 
For its new look, Schiphol has returned to the design principles that have characterised the airport since the 1960s: clarity, simplicity, a forward-looking approach and an unmistakably Dutch look and feel. The revamped logo features two central elements: an orange line and a circle with the letters AMS, which refer to Schiphol's international IATA code and are instantly recognisable to travellers from all over the world. The orange line forms a connecting element in all communications. 

The updated brand was created through an integrated collaboration with several partners. The brand strategy was devised with Eastwood Brand Consultancy, the visual brand identity was designed with Thonik, and the brand communication was developed with ACE. 

The maintenance on Taxiway C can only be carried out when the Polderbaan Runway is out of service, as there is less space available for taxiing during the works. That’s why we’re combining both activities, to minimise the impact on operations and the surrounding area. This ensures the taxiway remains safe and reliable.

What does the maintenance involve?
Routine maintenance is essential to keep the runways in good condition and safe for air traffic. On the Polderbaan Runway, repairs will be made to the asphalt and markings. Electrical systems and cabling will be inspected, the stormwater drainage system will be flushed at various locations, surrounding grass areas will be mown, and lights will be cleaned or replaced.

On Taxiway C, several key works will be carried out to improve and future-proof the infrastructure. Two layers of asphalt will be replaced, and deeper layers will be repaired where necessary to restore the taxiway’s condition. Drainage will be improved to ensure better runoff of rainwater. Lighting will be upgraded and made more sustainable: old halogen lamps will be replaced with energy-efficient LED lighting, including new cabling and transformer pits.

Maintenance of the Zwanenburgbaan Runway
Following this, routine maintenance will take place on the Zwanenburgbaan runway from Monday 27 October to Tuesday 4 November 2025. This work will also be carried out in combination with maintenance on Taxiway C. This planning helps to limit the impact on air traffic and the surrounding area as much as possible. The works will be carried out in collaboration with Heijmans.

More than food and drinks
The Wanderer invites travelers to discover new flavors and moments. In addition to a wide selection of street food dishes and cocktails, travelers can enjoy live DJ performances, a photo booth and a vending machine offering alcohol-free cocktails to-go. The new hotspot was developed in collaboration with Avolta, a global leader in travel hospitality and retail and the Dutch Cocktail Club, a group of creative young entrepreneurs.

Renewed Lounge 1
The opening of The Wanderer marks a milestone in the large-scale renovation of Lounge 1, the area where travelers stay after the security check for European flights. The lounge has been expanded from 19,000 to 24,000 square meters and now features a total of 23 new retail and hospitality concepts. With this development, Schiphol takes an important step in enhancing quality, variety and overall experience for travelers.

Sports clubs in the vicinity of Schiphol were delighted to receive a financial contribution from the Schiphol Fund. Donations from the Schiphol Fund allow sports clubs to invest in sports equipment. Or in new LED lighting, as was the case for hockey club MHC Muiderberg, which received a contribution of €5,500. 

In the third donation round of this year, a total of €110,000 was awarded to 29 sports clubs. This third round brings the total amount for regional sports initiatives this year to over € 330,000. There is considerable interest in the Schiphol Fund; many applications were received in this round as well. A fourth round will follow later this year. Applications can be submitted until 24 October 2025 on the Schiphol Fund website. 

The Schiphol Fund was established in 1994 with the aim of supporting sports and exercise in the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol area. The Schiphol Fund receives an annual donation from the airport and supports projects focused on physical activity and sports. 

Donation round September 2025

An important aspect of the proposal is a voluntary contribution from Schiphol that would prevent further increases in 2026. This allows Schiphol to accommodate airlines in keeping fares manageable. Schiphol is able to make this proposal now because it has focused on efficiency and cost control in airport operations, without compromising on quality and safety at the airport. At the same time, Schiphol continues to invest in quality, innovation and the incentivisation of cleaner and quieter aircraft. The proposal is part of ongoing consultations with airlines. Based on the responses and input from the airlines, Schiphol will make a formal decision on the charges at the end of October.

Cargo 
The total transported air cargo volume in July was 114,325 tonnes (-10.8% compared to 2024) and 118,341 tonnes in August (-6.7% compared to 2024), totalling 232,666 tonnes in the summer months. The amount of cargo carried on passenger flights decreased by 5% compared to 2024. In total, 45% of the cargo was transported on passenger flights and 55% on full freighter flights. The number of full freighter flights was 1,250 in July and 1,234 in August. That makes a total of 2,484 during the summer period, which is almost 5% lower than 2024.

The arrival of My Jewellery is part of Schiphol's broader strategy to update its retail offering and better align it with the needs of the modern traveller. The focus is on experience, innovation and attracting well-known Dutch brands like My Jewellery. 

Lounge 1 renovation  
The opening of My Jewellery is part of the extensive renovation of Lounge 1. The area where travellers spend time after security checks for European flights is a key component of Schiphol's strategy to improve the passenger experience. The lounge was recently expanded from 19,000 to 24,000 square metres. A total of 23 new retail and food and beverage concepts are being introduced, enhancing quality, variety and the overall experience. 

Recent renovations include the airport's largest store, Today Duty Free, a new Starbucks location covering a whopping 500 m² and the arrival of the restaurant chain Eataly, which is opening its very first location in the Netherlands. The addition of My Jewellery is fully aligned with this upgrade and brings a fresh, contemporary retailer to the heart of Lounge 1. 

My Jewellery  
My Jewellery is a leading Dutch fashion brand known for its trendy and affordable jewellery, accessories and clothing. With over 1 million followers on social media and a rapidly growing network of retail partners and stores (currently 46) in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and France, My Jewellery is firmly established in Europe. My Jewellery is especially popular with Gen Z, one of the fastest growing and most influential consumer groups, including those in the travel segment. 

Royal Schiphol Group and its partners are investigating the practical applicability of hydrogen vehicles, including ease of use, reliable range and integration into the existing infrastructure. A successful test with an H2 GPU, a hydrogen-powered ground power unit, was previously conducted at Schiphol. The GPU supplies stationary aircraft with emission-free power. 

Hydrogen as a sustainable alternative 
Hydrogen is a clean energy carrier which, like battery-electric vehicles, produces no emissions during use. An important advantage is the short refuelling time and reliable range, even at low temperatures. Unlike battery-electric equipment, hydrogen vehicles do not require intermediate recharging, making hydrogen-electric vehicles a valuable and efficient addition to ground operations. 

Collaboration 
The pilot is a joint effort by Royal Schiphol Group and various partners in the aviation sector, including manufacturers, airlines and ground handling companies. This collaboration is crucial to reducing indirect CO₂ emissions in the chain (Scope 3). Schiphol is not limiting itself to making its own processes and resources more sustainable but is actively contributing to the development of innovative solutions that will help the entire sector move forward. 

The pilot will run until the beginning of October and is part of the TULIPS programme, made possible in part by a grant from the European Union. This is Royal Schiphol Group's sustainable innovation programme in which new concepts are developed and demonstrated. Schiphol works closely with partners such as KLM, Rotterdam The Hague Airport, Torino Airport, Hermes Airports, Port of Amsterdam, KES, research institutes such as TNO, SINTEF, Fraunhofer and companies such as TLD, Zepp.solutions, HyCC, Air Products and Ballard. 

This solution has been investigated by independent parties. Calculations show that the remaining reflected glare from the solar park is such that, on that basis, this solution is deemed safe by the Integral Safety Management System (ISMS), in which the aviation sector works together to ensure safe aviation. 

Current situation and temporary measures 
DGEC has already begun dismantling fields A and B (78,000 solar panels), as recently ordered by the court. Fields C and D (150,000 solar panels) will be dismantled as soon as possible, carried out in phases. This takes time, and so the ISMS has been forced to take temporary measures to ensure the safety of air traffic. 

Starting 28 August 2025, the Zwanenburgbaan Runway will be unavailable for landing aircraft at certain times in the afternoon in sunny weather. The exact times vary per day, depending on the position of the sun. These periods will be between 14:40 and 17:00, ranging from a few minutes to a maximum of one hour. At these times, landing aircraft will be diverted to the Schiphol-Oostbaan Runway if necessary. This measure will remain in effect until 29 September 2025 or until the solar panels in question have been removed. Every day, weather forecasts will be used to assess whether the Zwanenburgbaan Runway is safe for use.
