Airport charges as from 1 April 2012
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has decided to increase its airport charges by 2% effective 1 April 2012, instead of by 4% as initially proposed. This decision should be seen as a gesture to the airlines following weeks of discussions between Schiphol and the airlines. These discussions prompted Schiphol to adjust the previous statutory rate increase downwards from 4% to 2% as from 1 April 2012.
Taking into account the better than expected 2011 results and the exceptional circumstances faced by many of its customers, Schiphol had earlier decided to pay the airlines a one-off sum of 15 million euros. This bears no connection to the statutory compulsory settlement that is still pending.
With Evaluation of the Aviation Act, being conducted under the leadership of State Secretary Atsma, nearing completion, Schiphol expects a simpler statutory rate calculation system to be introduced that will make it easier to respond to market conditions, also in the long term.
