Annual Maintenance of the Polderbaan Runway from 4 to 12 May

Summary

From Monday 4 May to Tuesday 12 May, Schiphol will carry out its annual routine maintenance on the Polderbaan runway. During this period, the runway will be unavailable for air traffic on weekdays. During the weekend, the Polderbaan will remain available. Aircraft that would normally take off from or land on the Polderbaan will use other runways during the maintenance period, primarily the Zwanenburgbaan and the Buitenveldertbaan. At night, air traffic will use the Zwanenburgbaan.

What does the maintenance involve?
Annual maintenance is essential to keep the runways in good condition and safe for air traffic. On the Polderbaan, repairs will be made to the asphalt and markings. Electrical systems and cabling will be inspected, the stormwater drainage system will be flushed at various locations, surrounding grass areas will be mown, and lights will be cleaned or replaced. The work will be carried out in collaboration with construction company Heijmans.

Renewal of taxiways A and B
The maintenance of the Polderbaan coincides with the renewal of two important taxiways: Taxiways A and B. These taxiways are used by aircraft taxiing to and from the runways, including the Polderbaan. By carrying out these works during the same period, Schiphol can limit disruption for local residents and passengers as much as possible.

Use of Alternative Runways
During the maintenance period, air traffic will make increased use of other runways, in particular the Zwanenburgbaan and Buitenveldertbaan. Depending on wind conditions, the Schiphol-Oostbaan may also be used. As a result, more aircraft may temporarily fly over the flight paths associated with these runways. We are aware that this may have an impact on local residents. That is why we plan runway maintenance carefully and do everything we can to carry it out as efficiently as possible.

Neighbours with questions
For more information or questions about air traffic and runway use during this period of works, Schiphol's neighbours can get in touch with the Local Community Contact Centre Schiphol (BAS). The BAS website provides an overview of current runway use and operational details, and they are the point of contact for information and complaints about air traffic to, from and at Schiphol. BAS can be reached 7 days per week (09:00-17:00) on 020 6015 555, or via their website.

Information about air traffic at Schiphol is published on the BAS and Schiphol websites every week. This gives local residents an insight into air traffic developments. Schiphol also keeps neighbours up to date on relevant developments regarding air traffic by way of a newsletter.
