Birgit Otto leaving Royal Schiphol Group in 2022

In 2022, Birgit Otto’s second and final term as Chief Operations Officer (COO) at Royal Schiphol Group is ending. She will leave Royal Schiphol Group on 1 June 2022. Birgit Otto has been working at Royal Schiphol Group for 21 years in Operations, Asset Management and Commercial, and eight years as Management Board member.

In line with the reorganisation carried out by Schiphol and the desire for a more efficient business operation, the Supervisory Board has decided to reduce the size of the Management Board from four to three members. That is why Birgit Otto will leave a few months earlier and will not be replaced. As of 1 June 2022, the Management Board will consist of Dick Benschop (Chief Executive Officer), Hanne Buis (Chief Operating Officer) and Robert Carsouw (Chief Financial Officer).

Birgit Otto: “I have led Royal Schiphol Group with a great deal of passion and enjoyment, and I am proud of what we have achieved in this period despite the ongoing challenges Schiphol is facing. In addition to the continuous attention for the daily operation, important projects have been started and completed and important investments made. I have always focused on creating added value – in the broad sense of the word – for our airlines, passengers and other stakeholders. Schiphol is a unique place and a great company.”

Louise Gunning, chair of the Supervisory Board: “I would like to sincerely thank Birgit for all she has done for Schiphol Group. She was always ‘the voice of the client’ in the organisation. During her term, Schiphol has taken important steps towards further digitalisation, integrated security and capacity management. We wish Birgit every success in the future.”
