Interruptions at Schiphol expected on Wednesday 29th May due to industrial action
There will be operational disruptions at Schiphol for ground handlers and security staff throughout the day on Wednesday, 29th May. These actions are aimed at drawing attention to the retirement age, similar to the public transport strikes which took place on Tuesday 28thMay. Schiphol is not a party to these industrial actions, but it has been designated as a specific action location by the FNV. Schiphol and FNV have agreed to the manner in which the actions can take place without endangering passenger safety.
Security
Security actions have been planned in the morning and afternoon. FNV has called on security personnel to strike twice for 33 minutes at different locations. This may temporarily result in longer working times at the security control areas if there are work interruptions underway.
Handling agents
Staff from Dnata (check-in), Aviapartner (platform) and Swissport (baggage) were asked to strike for 66 minutes between 12.30 and 13.36.
Cleaning companies
Staff from cleaning companies were called to be on strike for 24-hours. We are committed to keeping toilets and waste bins clean at a minimum level.

The situation at and around Schiphol has been manageable since the beginning of the day. Schiphol expects this to continue tonight. People are well prepared for the public transport strike and its consequences. Schiphol is informing arriving passengers about the current situation and their options. The fact that airlines and passengers rebooked around 10% of tickets in the run-up to today is providing the necessary relief on the access roads. The train shuttle between Hoofddorp and Amsterdam Central Station, via Schiphol, will run four times an hour until 9 pm. Passengers are advised to keep an eye on the current traffic situation.

The situation at Schiphol is manageable. People are well prepared for the consequences of the public transport strike. Arriving travellers are informed by Schiphol about the situation and which options they have to continue their journey. The fact that airlines and passengers have rebooked approximately 10% of their tickets for today provides the necessary relief on the access roads to the airport.
By 3 pm this afternoon, 37.183 passengers had departed and 32.861 had arrived. That is more than half of the total number of arriving and departing passengers we expect today. The train shuttle between Hoofddorp, Schiphol and Amsterdam Central Station, runs four times an hour according to schedule. The extra deployment of staff by all parties involved ensures that the traffic flow to the airport is properly managed.
It remains an exceptional travel day. The roads to Schiphol will continue to be busy and travelling by train remains limited. That is about a quarter of the number of arriving and departing travellers that we expect today. Please do not travel to or from Schiphol on Tuesday 28 May if it is not strictly necessary. Due to the national public transport strike no buses and trains will be running in the Netherlands. We expect high congestion on the roads to and from the airport. There is very limited train traffic between Schiphol and Amsterdam to keep crowd levels at Schiphol under control. This involves four trains per hour instead of the usual 25 trains per hour. Furthermore, there is no public transport. Please postpone your trip if possible.
