Royal Schiphol Group’s response to coalition agreement
Schiphol Group is pleased that the parties forming the coalition have opted for a balanced future for Dutch aviation and have made a number of clear choices. With the opening of Lelystad Airport and a focus on a level playing field in Europe, the coalition is taking steps that contribute to a future-proof aviation system that keeps the Netherlands accessible and on the move. We welcome the fact that this coalition is steering towards specific goals. The choices made offer prospects for clarity and stability, and form an important foundation for further sustainability in the sector.
The ambition to fly cleaner and quieter requires cooperation throughout the entire chain, innovation, collaboration with the government and a level playing field in Europe. Schiphol is tackling the challenge (together with others) of reducing CO₂ emissions and noise nuisance from aviation in a way that safeguards Schiphol's important position as an international hub.
With this coalition agreement, aviation is increasingly being approached as a single coherent system that contributes to the broad prosperity and resilience of the Netherlands. The parties forming the coalition are taking into account the balance between accessibility, the living environment, climate and the economic value of aviation. We are happy to contribute to this in the coming years. Schiphol remains committed to further noise reduction and we are convinced that, together with the sector, we can ensure that it becomes 50% quieter around Schiphol at night. That is good news for our neighbours.
