Schiphol and Airport Community Schiphol sign Amsterdam MBO Internship Pact

Queen Máxima gives a royal touch to the launch of the Amsterdam MBO Internship Pact

Working at Schiphol must remain attractive to everyone who dreams of working in aviation. From the baggage basement to the top of the control tower – the possibilities for meaningful and challenging work at the airport are endless. Having the opportunity to do an internship at Schiphol is more important than ever. This kind of practical work experience teaches you how to deal with the challenges that arise when working at an airport.

At Schiphol, we have been active for years in the cooperation between business and education in the area of internships. That is why Royal Schiphol Group and Airport Community Schiphol (LCS) joined the Amsterdam MBO Internship Pact on Tuesday 9 April. It is based on the national MBO Internship Pact and is supported by four cornerstones: ensuring sufficient suitable internships, improving internship supervision, ensuring appropriate compensation and eliminating internship discrimination.

The importance of the Internship Pact is further highlighted by the presence of Queen Máxima, who was there for the signing of the pact and emphasised the need for well-trained professionals in business and the economy.

Royal Schiphol Group is pleased to join the Amsterdam MBO Internship Pact. We are not only an employer, but also a contractor and operator of the airport. The Schiphol location offers many opportunities for trainees. We support the ambition of the Amsterdam Internship Pact and, based on our social responsibility, we are happy to contribute.

Esmé Valk, Executive Director HR, Royal Schiphol Group

We believe it is important that there are sufficient quality internships for students, and that guidance from both business and education is well organised. Good cooperation between education and business is of great importance. There are many opportunities to learn in practice at Schiphol and to ensure this runs smoothly, we developed the Schiphol internship guidelines last year.
