Schiphol celebrates Christmas with surprising entertainment

A Magic X-mas at the airport

A varied Christmas entertainment programme will be launched at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on Friday 16 December. Until 26 December passengers visiting the airport will be able to see Santa Claus and enjoy performances by the White Wish Fairies and street performers ‘JöttnJöll’. The ‘X-mas Skate Girls’ will present passers-by with Christmas gifts and wish everyone at the airport a Magic X-mas. On Saturday 17 December the KLM Orchestra will play a varied 40-minute programme at Schiphol Plaza. The concert starts at 14:00 and will be repeated twice later that afternoon.

Magic X-mas at Schiphol

During the holidays, the airport will receive passengers and visitors in a magic Christmas atmosphere. Two hundred Christmas trees with 32,000 Christmas ornaments decorate the terminal lit by a total of 32,400 LED lamps. Even the car parks are decorated for Christmas with, among other things, a large globe at Park & Travel 3. Lounge 3 features a special tree whose theme is the Elfstedentocht, with a miniature replica of the famous skating tour that passes through eleven Frisian towns.

Biggest flashmob ever at Schiphol

On Friday 23 December the square in front of Schiphol Plaza will see an endeavour by the VCN trade union for cabin crew staff to organise the largest flashmob ever in the Netherlands. The event will start at 13:00.

Ice skating rink

Jan Dellaertplein, the square in front of the terminal, is transformed into a winter wonderland until 31 January 2012, complete with a traditional oliebollenkraam - a Dutch doughnut stall - and a koek & zopie refreshment stall. Skates are available on loan (no charge) for anyone who feels like taking a turn around the ice skating rink.

Christmas holidays

Friday 23 December will mark the start of the Christmas holiday season in the Netherlands. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol expects to welcome 325,000 departing, arriving and transferring passengers that weekend. Friday 23 December will be the busiest day, with a total of some 130,000 passengers passing through the airport.

Passengers can reduce travel and waiting times by checking in online at home or by using one of the many self-service check-in desks available at the airport.

Schiphol Excellence Parking

Passengers wishing to use the luxury car park service directly adjacent to the terminal will be able to so during this period for only € 15 a day. This special Schiphol Excellence Parking offer is valid up to and including 15 January. The offer only applies to online reservations for a minimum of four days' consecutive parking.
