Schiphol chosen as Europe's best airport

Jury praises facilities andattention to sustainability

On Thursday 21 June, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol came first for the third time running in the ‘more than 25 million passengers’ category of the 2012 ACI EUROPE Best Airport awards. Jos Nijhuis, President & CEO of Schiphol Group, accepted the award at the ACI EUROPE Annual General Assembly in Madrid.

A jury of independent experts praised Schiphol as a model of excellent facilities, ongoing infrastructure improvements and consideration for sustainability and the environment.

Schiphol also won this award in 2009 and 2011. A word from CEO Jos Nijhuis: ‘We as very proud to have been granted this award for the third time. It underscores our ambition to be and remain ‘Europe’s preferred airport’ and confirms that we are leading the way in Europe.’

Global Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) Awards

Yesterday evening it was also revealed that Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was picking up prizes at the Airport Food & Beverage Conference. The Gendale Group’s Café Rembrandt at Schiphol Plaza was acclaimed world’s ‘Best Airport Bar’. HMS Host and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol were rewarded with an award in the category ‘Best Food & Beverage Concession Programme’ for their excellent collaboration and for offering such an integrated and diverse range of products that expressly caters to the wishes of passengers and visitors.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has received a number of other awards this year:

  • Europe’s Best Airport, by Skytrax
  • Best Airport Europe and Best Cargo Terminal Europe

ACI Europe

These airports facilitate over 90% of all commercial air traffic in Europe, handling over one billion passengers a year.
