Schiphol jobs programme already providing employment for more than 500 people

The Schiphol Banenplan, a jobs programme that aims to provide employment at Schiphol for 750 people with a disadvantage on the labour market over the course of three years, has reached a milestone. More than 500 people have found work so far. The jobs programme is a collaboration between Royal Schiphol Group, the municipality of Amsterdam, Werkgeversservicepunt Groot-Amsterdam (WSP) and Schiphol Aviation Community (LCS). It was set up in January 2020. 

In March 2020, shortly after the signing of the jobs programme in January, the coronavirus pandemic broke out. The plan’s target seemed unachievable as a result. The focus inevitably shifted from getting job seekers into employment to finding work for Schiphol employees in order to prevent them from becoming unemployed.

The situation changed again one and half years later. Since then, the labour market has been facing unprecedented shortages. Because of this, the Schiphol jobs programme can again focus primarily on helping people with a disadvantage on the labour market – including status holders, people with an occupational disability and people who have been on benefits for a long time – find work.

Between January 2020 and August 2022, more than 500 people have found work at Schiphol through the jobs programme. Many of them are now successfully employed in hospitality, transport or logistics. Despite labour market volatility, the results of the jobs programme are very positive. Royal Schiphol Group, the municipality of Amsterdam, Werkgeversservicepunt Groot-Amsterdam (WSP) and Schiphol Aviation Community (LCS) are therefore now in talks about how they can continue their collaboration after the three-year term finishes at the end of January 2023.
