Schiphol launches trial to predict waiting times at Security Control

A trial is now under way on the Schiphol.nl website to show the predicted waiting times at Security Control in Departure Hall 1. This predicted information is part of a personalised itinerary offered to passengers by Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Passengers using Departure Hall 1 on a selection of flight services will receive a recommendation via Schiphol.nl for the best moment to pass through Security Control and the expected waiting times on this occasion. The Schiphol.nl website will display the same information on waiting times as the physical signs near Security Control at the airport, starting two hours ahead of the flight's scheduled departure.

Predicted waiting times at Security Control are based on a smart data model that uses historical data and expected passenger numbers. The trial will last until early October. A subsequent evaluation will consider ways to improve the data model and its application further, including at Schiphol's other departure filters.

Schiphol has been a trailblazer for over a century, with innovation running through our veins. Our constant innovations aim to improve the experiences of passengers and airlines. Among our priorities are applications that may contribute to a smoother passenger flow. One way of doing so could be to inform passengers about the best moment to pass through Security Control. We expect the trial to yield valuable insights.
