Schiphol welcomed 13.2 million travellers during summer months
Schiphol looks back on successful summer months. In July and August, 13.2 million travellers flew to, from or via Schiphol. This is an increase of 3.6% compared to the summer months of 2024. Most passengers flew to Spain, the United Kingdom, Greece, Italy and the United States. The number of flights to and from Schiphol during the summer was 86,936. That is an increase of 1.6% compared to 2024.
'For many people, summer is the ideal time to go on holiday. And they like to do so via Schiphol. Half of the departing travellers lives in the Netherlands. That underlines our role as a national airport, which we fulfil thanks to the efforts of thousands of colleagues at Schiphol. Because of them the summer went smoothly, and we received more than 200,000 travellers each day, totalling around 13.2 million. That's an achievement we can be proud of as the Netherlands.'
Amount of travellers
Of the 13.2 million travellers in the summer, almost 8.6 million flew directly to or from Schiphol (4.2 million in July, 4.3 million in August). For these people, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was the airport of arrival or departure. 95% of departing travellers went through the security check within 10 minutes.
Baggage handling also went smoothly; 4.5 million items belonging to departing travellers were processed during the summer holidays. That is an increase of 7% compared to the 4.2 million items in the summer of 2024.
4.6 million travellers had a transfer at Schiphol. There were more than 2.3 million transfer passengers, who are counted twice in accordance with the international counting method: once as an arriving passenger and once as a departing passenger.
Most popular destinations
Spain was the most popular destination for locally departing travellers, followed by the United Kingdom, Greece, Italy and the United States. In total, 9.5 million travellers arrived from or flew to a destination in Europe. 3.7 million arrived from or flew to an intercontinental destination outside Europe.
Flights
The number of flights to and from Schiphol was 43,320 in July and 43,616 in August 2025, totalling 86,936 in the summer months. That is an increase of 1.6% compared to 2024. Of these flights, 70.801 went to European destinations and 16.135 to intercontinental destinations.
Cargo
The total transported air cargo volume in July was 114,325 tonnes (-10.8% compared to 2024) and 118,341 tonnes in August (-6.7% compared to 2024), totalling 232,666 tonnes in the summer months. The amount of cargo carried on passenger flights decreased by 5% compared to 2024. In total, 45% of the cargo was transported on passenger flights and 55% on full freighter flights. The number of full freighter flights was 1,250 in July and 1,234 in August. That makes a total of 2,484 during the summer period, which is almost 5% lower than 2024.
