Schiphol wins Computable Award for digital support in logistic traffic flow

The digital support Schiphol and partners offer to lorry drivers in finding a suitable place to wait has won a Computable Award 2022 in the category Large Business Project. Together, CTC Amsterdam Westkant, Port of Amsterdam, Wallenborn, Be-Mobile and Schiphol found a solution for the logistic traffic flow at Schiphol. With 21 percent of the votes, this solution won the prize in one of the sixteen categories.

Schiphol is working hard to further develop the accessibility around Schiphol in a clean, efficient and smart way with the help of digital resources. Thanks to this project, lorry drivers have a digital insight into where they can find a safe place to wait in the event they cannot directly go to their destination at Schiphol. This is a first step in ensuring a more efficient traffic flow for lorries in the region.’ - Erik Felëus, Smart Building Developer at Schiphol Commercial

Via the Truckmeister app, drivers receive an automatic notification with the number of available parking or waiting locations as soon as they approach Schiphol. The driver is then shown the route to the buffer location, how many places are still available and how they can navigate there. Based on their schedule, drivers can estimate whether they will drive to a buffer location, or whether they can load or unload directly at the airport. As a result, they don't park unnecessarily on the roadway and they spend less time driving around in the area, which means better traffic flows and less CO2 emissions around Schiphol.
