Sondag to stay on longer as interim CEO Royal Schiphol Group

Ruud Sondag will, at the Supervisory Board’s request, remain interim CEO of Royal Schiphol Group until 1 March 2024 at the latest. The Supervisory Board is making progress in the recruitment procedure for a definitive successor.

Jaap Winter, chair of the Supervisory Board: “The Supervisory Board is going through an intensive recruitment process for a permanent CEO. It is in the interests of Schiphol, all employees and stakeholders that the interim period is being extended and that Ruud Sondag is staying on for a little longer. Together with the whole management team, and in a short period of time, he has made effective choices that give Schiphol a clear agenda for the future. Quality and stability are now top priorities. Our request for Ruud to remain until 1 March 2024 at the latest also gives the Supervisory Board time to diligently complete the recruitment procedure for a permanent CEO.”

During the May holidays, things were much better for both travellers and airlines. One swallow does not make a summer, but this does give us confidence. We’re staying on top of things. The understanding is that structural improvements are required. We are tackling overdue maintenance, which is tied to a new way of working, in the areas of working conditions, environment, the surrounding area and our infrastructure and buildings. These are important topics that I’d like to work on for longer. Moreover, I also just really enjoy working at Schiphol.

Ruud Sondag, CEO Royal Schiphol Group

Quieter, cleaner and better
The measures in Schiphol’s eight-point plan to make the airport quieter, cleaner and better are the priorities for the coming months. Schiphol has also submitted plans concerning noise as a proposal in the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management’s Balanced Approach procedure. Schiphol wants to keep on connecting the Netherlands in the future, but the way in which that is done needs to be improved. We are therefore committed to a quieter, cleaner and better Schiphol.

Infrastructure and buildings
Additionally, Schiphol is working on plans to improve the quality of its infrastructure and buildings. The airport will communicate more about this in the near future. Included in these plans is the tackling of overdue maintenance, the improvement and renewal of infrastructure, and the improvement of working conditions.
