Time slots a success at Schiphol: millionth traveller in the spotlight

The booking of time slots for the security check at Schiphol has been extremely successful. Since March, more than one million time slots have been reserved. The service that enables travellers to go through security swiftly and hassle-free was used for the millionth time this week.

The unsuspecting couple Willy and Leny Janssen - Jansen from Uden made a booking to go through security smoothly when going on their Christmas holiday to Bonaire. Schiphol surprised them with free access to the luxurious Privium Lounge.

By making use of a pre-booked time slot, travellers can go through the security check at a time of their choice. That way, they know exactly when to be at security, and they do not need to queue up. Time slots can be booked up to three days before departure on the Schiphol website or using the Schiphol app. The latest time slot a passenger can reserve for a non-Schengen destination is 90 minutes before departure. For Schengen destinations it's 60 minutes.

Facts and figures

  • Travellers have booked more than a million time slots since March.
  • The most popular time slot is 90-105 minutes before departure.
  • Most time slots within the Schengen Zone are booked by travellers flying to Barcelona, Malaga and Lisbon. The most popular non-Schengen time slots are booked by travellers going to Curação, London Heathrow and Dubai.

On Schiphol.nl and in the Schiphol app, travellers can find information about their travel day, such as what time the check-in desk opens, as well as what the expected and current crowds at the security check are. Travellers can book their time slot on the Schiphol website or using the app and enjoy a no-stress security process.
