Traffic and transport figures for March 2019

5.6 million passengers travelled from, to or via Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in March this year, representing an increase of 1.3% compared to March 2018. The number of passengers who started or ended their journey at Schiphol increased by 5.0%, while the number of transfer passengers decreased by 4.6% relative to the same month last year. Although the aircraft arriving at Schiphol were larger on average (3.7 more seats), the slightly lower load factor (-0.4%) resulted in an average increase of 2.4 passengers per air transport movement at Schiphol.

Cargo

The number of cargo flights decreased by 8.1% this month compared to March 2018. Whereas the average load factor of cargo flights remained unchanged in comparison with March last year, the increase in cargo transported in the hold of passenger flights limited the decline in cargo volume to 2.5%.

Passenger destinations

March saw 3.9 million passengers travelling to and from European destinations (+1.6%). More passengers boarded flights to the Austrian snow (25% growth) and to London airports (+7.5%).

In March, Schiphol welcomed 1.7 million intercontinental passengers (+0.6%). The North American destinations in the USA and Canada saw a rise in popularity (+6%), while more passengers went to the United Arab Emirates (+4%).
