Traffic and transport figures for November 2018
5.3 million passengers travelled from, to or via Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in November this year, representing an increase of 2.4% compared to November 2017. The number of passengers who started or ended their journey at Schiphol increased by 3.3%, and the number of transfer passengers was up by 1.1%. The number of passenger flights increased by 1.4%. Average aircraft size increased by 1.5 seats compared to the same period last year. The load factor stayed the same.
Cargo faced a 8.0% drop in cargo movements in November. The overall volume of cargo transported fell by 2.3%.
November saw nearly 3.7 million passengers travelling from and to European destinations. Growing destinations include Polish destinations (+12%). Warsaw and Krakow in particular gained in popularity. Passenger numbers from and to Greece rose too, by over 10%, in part due to more passengers heading to Athens, though also because summer destinations Heraklion and Thessaloniki are taking winter flights.
The number of intercontinental travellers increased by 4.5% (to 1.6 million). There was a rise in the number of travellers to various destinations in the USA: Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Chicago and Salt Lake City. The number of travellers on the three routes to India (Mumbai, Bengaluru, New Delhi) continues to rise, by 10% more passengers on average. Egyptian winter sun destinations are also gaining in popularity (up 13% on average).
