Your holiday starts at the airport

Suitcases dropped off? Check! Checked-in? Check! Through security? Check! And now, you wait for your flight. Luckily, there’s enough to keep you entertained after security. Here are some tips with a Dutch twist.

Masterpieces
You can go to Holland Boulevard at any time of the day to marvel at a selection of Dutch masterpieces from the Rijksmuseum – see the Netherlands through the eyes of 19th century artists. The collection is regularly updated, so it’s always worth taking a look. And you don’t have to leave empty-handed. In the Museum Shop, you’ll find a selection of unique items inspired by the great masters like Van Gogh and Vermeer, but also designs by a new generation of Dutch artists.

Fun for kids
If you’re travelling with children, be sure to pay a visit to the mini NEMO Science Museum. A playful place where you can learn more about science and technology in a hands-on way. It’s fun for all ages. The little ones will enjoy the play area and, of course, Miffy cannot be missed for even more entertainment. Board games, cute cuddly toys and Miffy and Friends books – there’s something for everyone here.

Say cheese
Feeling a bit peckish? Try a traditional Dutch snack or meal at Tastes from the Lowlands or Dutch Kitchen. From the famous bitterballen and croquettes to herring, fluffy bite-sized pancakes and caramel waffles. Dutch people love to take their favourite Dutch foods with them on holiday. Follow their example and buy some chocolate bars at Tony’s Chocolonely. Or, if you prefer savoury treats, go to cheese heaven at Say Cheese.

Don’t forget your flight
With all these activities, time certainly flies. If you want to make sure you’ll be on time for your flight, download the Schiphol app and turn on notifications. That way, you’ll automatically get a message when you can start boarding – very convenient!
