New parking products at Schiphol
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has announced its new parking products. As car park P2 will no longer exist, the airport has been looking for alternatives to ensure that everyone still has access to good parking facilities.
Schiphol needs more room to accommodate the growth in the number of passengers and air transport movements. The airport is therefore developing a new pier and terminal. In order to make way for the construction work, car park P2 will disappear and will be replaced by both new and existing parking solutions from 1 October 2017.
‘The main change is that it will only be possible to park at Schiphol-Centre (P1) for a maximum of 48 hours. This will allow as many people as possible to use the parking garage and means there will always be space if someone is going on a short trip, picking someone up or dropping them off’, says Dieme Ketel, Parking Manager at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. ‘One of the alternatives if you need to park for more than 48 hours is the new P6 Valet Parking, just a few minutes' walk from the terminal. However, other options are also available. We will offer a wide and appealing range of parking solutions, which was also our starting point: passengers will still have the same high-quality parking facilities which they are used to finding at Schiphol.’
A brief overview of the parking facilities from 1 October 2017 onwards is shown below:
P1 Short-Term Parking
The capacity of car park P1 will be expanded by means of an extension next to the Hilton hotel. The parking duration will be limited to a maximum of 48 hours, as car park P1 will also be used for dropping people off or picking them up. Short Stop parking will no longer exist at this location.
P6 Valet Parking
For people who wish to park for longer than 48 hours while remaining close to the terminal, P6 Valet Parking is the perfect choice. This new product is just a 2-minute walk from the terminal and will be located at the front of car park P1, where Short Stop Parking and Holiday Valet Parking are currently based. This is a fast and reliable parking solution. Cars will be recorded on video camera upon entry to the car park. Once you have dropped off your key, your car will be parked on a secure site at the airport (with camera surveillance) by Schiphol staff.
P3 Long-Term Parking
The only thing which will change about P3 Long-Term Parking is the name (previously Smart Parking). This will remain the cheapest place to park for three days or longer. You can park in the parking garage or on the car park. Every 10 minutes, there is a shuttle bus which takes passengers to and from the terminal 24/7.
Terminal Valet Parking
No changes will be made to Terminal Valet Parking, Schiphol Parking's most luxurious product which offers a comprehensive service and is located between Departure Halls 2 and 3.
Privium Plus Parking
Privium Plus members will have the option of parking in P1 and P3 as before. In addition, the Excellence garage (right next to Departure Hall 3) will be made available to Privium Plus members subject to reservation.
The new range of parking facilities will also require a change to the routes and signage at Schiphol from 1 October. ‘The new P6 Valet Parking will soon be accessible from Schiphol Boulevard, which is being expanded and will also gain a new exit,’ says Dieme Ketel, who is proud of what he and his team have achieved. ‘It was a challenging puzzle which needed to be pieced together in a relatively short time. But everything has fallen into place very nicely.’
In order to further develop its position as a multi-modal hub and ‘Preferred Airport’, Schiphol is on the eve of various comprehensive infrastructural investment projects such as the construction of a new pier and terminal, modifications to the landside infrastructure, train and bus station and therefore also the parking facilities.
