Schiphol and Groningen Airport Eelde to cooperate and exchange knowledge

Summary

Schiphol is entering into cooperation with Groningen Airport Eelde (GAE). This partnership initially focuses on route development and the development of commercial real estate at GAE. Schiphol is thus further fulfilling the wish of the outgoing cabinet for better cooperation between the regional airports and Schiphol.

GAE plays an important societal and economic role for the Northern Netherlands and the entire country and wants to further develop this role over the coming years. One way they will be doing that is by contributing towards the development of sustainable aviation, with initiatives in the field of hydrogen implementation. The objective of the cooperation is to stimulate this innovation and strengthen GAE's societal and economic importance by making Schiphol's specialist knowledge, experience and expertise available to GAE.

Schiphol recognises the societal importance of Groningen Airport Eelde and we'd like to help them keep and strengthen that position. At the same time, we are also giving substance to a wish stated in the Civil Aviation Policy Memorandum 2020-2050. We are in favour of a system in which Dutch airports cooperate as one system for the optimal use of airport capacity in the Netherlands. In this way, we can work together to make aviation more sustainable and continue to add value at a regional and national level.

Robert Carsouw, CFO and interim CEO of Schiphol

With this collaboration we are another step closer to making optimal use of the Netherlands' limited airport capacity. We are pleased with the help we'll be getting in this partnership, including from Schiphol's route development team. We can also learn a lot from each other in the field of sustainable aviation.
