Sustainability at Schiphol gains international appreciation

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol received the 2018 Eco-Innovation Award. This prize is awarded every year by the Airport Council International Europe (ACI) to a European airport with excellent and innovative performance on sustainability.

According to the jury, Schiphol deserves the award because of its comprehensive approach to sustainability, including CO2-neutral business operations, the application of circular economy principles and the use of renewable energy.

Electric buses and wind power
This past year, Schiphol achieved a few significant results. Examples include the largest electrical bus fleet in Europe operating at and around Schiphol, the introduction of the first wind turbines providing power for the Royal Schiphol Group, the construction of a sustainable morgue, and the installation of sustainable heating and cooling at a number of piers.
