Presentation of the 2013 Schiphol Consumers Awards

Companies awarded for outstanding achievement

Last night, the annual Schiphol Consumers Awards were presented to commercial enterprises at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol that delivered an outstanding performance in hospitality, sustainability, innovation or growth. Quinty Trustfull and Filemon Wesselink announced the winners at a special Schiphol Consumers Awards ceremony.

The airport awards the Schiphol Consumers Awards to its business partners whose innovative business activities or performance has set them apart from the rest. A new feature this year is the substantiation of the Corporate Responsibility Award. Based on objective scoring methods, Good & Green Guides - an authority in sustainability - assessed relative progress in the field of sustainability.

The winners of the Guest Friendliness Awards are chosen by travellers at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. In a survey, they stated what they considered to be the most guest friendly shop, restaurant and service concept.

Guest Friendliness Awards

Travellers chose the most guest and customer friendly hospitality outlets at the airport in three categories. In the food and drink category, travellers gave the Guest Friendliness Award to Hema Food Counter at Schiphol Plaza and Dutch Kitchen on Holland Boulevard. In retail, the awards went to Aviflora on Holland Boulevard and Aviflora again at Schiphol Plaza. In the services category, the award went to Schiphol Valet Parking.

Corporate Responsibility Award

PCH Parking & Facility Services and HMS Host came joint first in the survey by Good & Green Guides. In the past year, HMS Host has recorded several achievements in sustainability. For example, it included MARIE-STELLA-MARIS ethical drinking water in its product range, it completed the sustainable construction of the new La Place restaurant and signed contracts for the sale of no fewer than 350,000 organic and animal-friendly sandwiches using locally sourced vegetables and environmentally friendly packaging. PCH Parking & Facility Services received an award for its efforts to ensure the intensive involvement of clients and suppliers in sustainability programmes and for its active participation in the Social Responsibility Platform.

Growth Award

Planes@Plaza received the Growth Award for achieving growth of no less than 45% at the airport in the past year. Planes@Plaza achieved this growth in part by responding to trends, such as Miffy in a pilot's uniform and merchandising surrounding the film première of Planes.

Innovation Award

The innovation award this year went to Hertz for the Hertz Dream Collection. In April 2013, Hertz at Schiphol became the first in Europe and Asia to offer Dream Cars. The concept - unique to Hertz at Schiphol - was a great success from the outset. It gives customers the option to take a Bentley or a super fast Porsche out for a spin, transforming luxury car rental to an unforgettable experience.

Media Award

KLM took the Media Award for its advertising campaign and activities surrounding Disney's Planes in the 3D drive-in movie theatre on the P2 parking deck at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. A model of contemporary experience and feel-good marketing, the campaign consisted of a huge scaffold-mounted canvas of 1,500 m2, analogue and digital media in the terminal, a playful Facebook activation with tickets to be won for the film and special kids event in a hangar, along with a viral YouTube clip.
